Pool finishes 101.

Pool finishes are a plaster, tile or aggregate material that goes on top of your pool’s concrete shell. Each finish comes in an array colors, textures and materials that can make a pool feel like a sandy tropical oasis or cool modern escape. But before diving into specifics, here’s what comes before the pool finish.

Steel, plumbing & electrical

Once excavation is complete, steel rebar is used to create the skeleton that it used to support the shell. This is followed by electrical and plumbing.

Shell

The shell of a pool is made of concrete that is either applied as shotcrete or gunite. Shotcrete is premixed concrete that is shot from a hose to create the pool shell while gunite is a dry mix that combines with water at the nozzle of the hose as its being sprayed. Once cured, Tile and coping are ready to be installed.

Finishes

Pool finish is installed during the final stages of the pool construction process. Pool finish has evolved over the years from paint and marcite to the pre-blended custom materials that we have today.  These products include custom color preblended Quartz, Pebble, and Marble finishes.
